ABSTRACT
Background: The acute and chronic infection secondary to hepatitis B
virus is a major global public health problem; a 5-10% of all infected
adults will become carriers of HBV.
Objective: To know the prevalence of Antigen surface for hepatitis B,
in pregnant women workers in the area of the health of the Hospital de
Ginecología y Obstetricia No. 4, Dr. Luis Castelazo Ayala. México D.F.
Material and methods: A prospective cross-sectional study that included
two groups of pregnant women: I) workers of the health area
II) not workers of the health area. All underwent screening for Antigen
surface for hepatitis B.
Results: We studied two groups of 130 patients. There were no differences
between groups in age and weeks of gestation. The detection of
the antigen was negative in both groups.
Conclusions: To be worker health, in this study, did not increase the
prevalence of HBV infection. We could evaluate the possibility of
increasing the number of patients, and increase the time of data collection.
Despite the strategies of the health authorities for the prevention
of infection by Hepatitis B with the results obtained in the study we can
conclude a low coverage in the vaccination.
