II. The interdental complex (IDC). Anthropometric study of dentogingival component in upper anterior teeth

ABSTRACT
This is a report on the interdental or interproximal complex (CID) supported by information withdrew from a master database of an anthropometric study on the dentogingival component, conducted in 151 Mexican individuals of both sexes among 15 to 29 years. The description of the CID involves proportional and metric definitions and interrelationships of the size of the papilla, interdental contact and incisal notch area; anatomical features that may be dependent on ethnic conditions, consequently on genetic aspects, which may show variations with other population sectors around the globe. The usefulness of knowing the CID consist of retaining more harmonic results with the appearance (natural beauty) in the Mexican population, probably extended to another Latin American sectors, as well as to achieve compatibility between dentition and supporting hard (alveolar bone) and soft tissues (biological width and gingiva). The morphometric results suggest that crowns of Mexican dentitions are shorter, but not by far, in the longitudinal axis (more width or less height) than what is alluded to American or European standards; condition that structurally shall affect the various components of the CID, and secondarily in the design, construction, and dental reconstruction that pursues aims for achievement of naturalness and tissue compatibility, that assures beauty and prosthetic, reconstructive and orthodontic results steadiness.
