ABSTRACT
Paget’s disease of the nipple is a superficial manifestation of an underlying breast malignancy; it was described
in 1874 by sir James Paget. It has been reported in 1-3% of all breast carcinoma. The peak incidence
is between 50 and 60 years. Clinically appears as a unilateral, erythematous, scaly plaque slightly infiltrated;
retraction of the nipple and serosanguinous discharge may be present. A biopsy is mandatory for the diagnosis.
The histologic hallmark, the Paget’s cells, described as a large ovoid intraepidermal cell with abundant
pale cytoplasma. The most common presentation is with intraductal carcinoma. Radical mastectomy, radiation
and close surveillance are appropriate therapies. Patients without palpable mass have a better prognosis.
