ABSTRACT
Gastric cancer remains a public
health problem worldwide.
Radical surgery is the only
curative treatment in advanced
gastric cancer, however, only
half of patients are eligible for
radical surgery at diagnosis.
Staging laparoscopy is a useful
tool, which is recommended in all
patients with locally advanced
disease who are medically fit
to undergo a gastrectomy, and
do not require intervention by
gastric obstruction or active
bleeding. With appropriate
criteria, diagnostic laparoscopy
alter management in more than
25% of the cases.
