ABSTRACT

As local transmission of Chikungunya virus has been identified in the American continent as of 2013, it becomes increasingly important for physicians to recognize the clinical signs and symptoms that define this disease as well as epidemic trends. This virus is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the same vector involved in dengue transmission. The most predominant clinical manifestations consist of high grade fever and potentially disabling joint pain. Treatment is symptomatic and preventative measures are key.
