Epidemiological characterization of unintentional lesions in Villa Clara (2001- 2012)

ABSTRACT
In Villa Clara province, 230 minors under the age of 20 years died as a result of accidents and as a consequence of unintentional lesions in the last twelve years. The greatest number of dead people were in 2001, number that increased in 2012. There was a predominance of mortality in masculine sex with 179 deceased people (77,8 %), being similar in all years. The age group from 15 to 19 years old had the higher risk of accidents due to it showed the highest rates. Encrucijada, Ranchuelo, Sagua and Camajuaní presented the highest risk of accidents. A predominance of transport accidents was observed (43,5 %) according to the causes of occurrence, followed by drowning and submersion(18,7 %). Mortality due to accidents was more frequent from May to August, with a higher incidence in June and August.REFERENCES
