ABSTRACT
Degenerative low back pain with radicular compression is frequently seen in rehabilitation services. Synovial cysts of facet joints represent an uncommon and probably underestimated pathological entity of the degenerative lumbar spine. Synovial facetary cysts are located with preponderance on L4/L5 level; MR study is the method of diagnosis. Surgery is the best alternative for its treatment. We report the case of a 55 years old female patient with lumbar facet joint synovial cyst at L5/S1 level, with significant clinical radicular pain diagnosed by means of MR imaging. She was treated with hemilaminectomy and cystectomy and rehabilitation program.
