ABSTRACT
Background: The mesenchymal hamartoma is a benign neoplasia secondary from an abnormal growth of a developing tissue.
Case report: We report the case of a four days old newborn in whom an abdominal tumor was detected. Imaging studies reported hepatic mesenchymal hamartoma located in the left hepatic lobe. Definitive diagnosis was reached by histopathology after surgical full resection, after this the patient was successfully discharged.
Conclusion: Despite benign liver tumors are the most common pathology lineage in children, location in left lobe is extremely infrequent. Although most of them could pass unnoticed and remain asymptomatic, they must be detected and undergo prompt treatment because they can result in cardiac abnormalities or incidental bleeding and shock as catastrophic clinical debut.
