ABSTRACT
Introduction: The infirmary is the profession that takes charge of the satisfaction of the
human necessities, the aspects that modify and affect it, such as physical, chemical,
biological, psychological and social. It assists not only the healthy but the sick person.
Objective: Determining the load of work by means of the application of the prognostic
system TISS-28, in wards of attention to the serious.
Method: Prospective, descriptive and of transverse court study to the organization of
the shifts of work of infirmary for 1 month, in the units of attention to the serious of the
Hospital Dr. Luis Díaz Soto.
Results: The patients that reached higher punctuation, were those that were more
serious and those that required more therapeutic interventions of infirmary. The fund of
real time was from 11.99 hours, 595 minutes, it corresponds to 9.91 hour, equivalent to
56 points of TISS. The other 125 minutes, that correspond to 2.08 hours, for the rest of
the tasks. It was significant the shortage of masters and specialists linked to the
attendance, the high presence of basic male nurses, the low percentage of trained
personnel linked the assistantial process in connection with the number of admitted
patients. There was an elevated percentage of load of work in UCIQ and UCIM.
Conclusions: The TISS-28 determines the load of work, it identifies the intensity of the
therapeutic interventions of infirmary. It also determines the graveness of the patients
correlating it with the punctuation, classifying them for category, allowing to know if it
was carried out a correct nurse-patient assignment according to daily puncture.
