ABSTRACT
Introduction: It is necessary to maintain a narrow observation on certain factors
associated with the increase of the mortality for sepsis
Objectives: Determining the
clinical-epidemic and evolutionary factors of the patients that are admitted for serious
sepsis, associated with mortality for this cause.
Method: It was carried out a descriptive,
retrospective study and of series of cases in the UCI of the Hospital "Dr. Gustavo
Aldereguía Lima," of the sick persons admitted by serious sepsis in the triennium 2009-
2011. N= 332. The patients were characterized according to the relationship between
clinical and epidemic aspects; then they were analyzed the relationship between clinical,
epidemic and evolutionary variables of the sick persons with the state to the discharge
Results: The factors were: the age between 55 and 74 years (10.8%); the breathing
infection (7,5%) and the Intraabdominal infection (6.9%); the development of organic
multiple disfunction (20.2%); the association of breathing and cardiovascular
disfunctions (16%); necessary use of mechanical ventilation (22.9%)
Conclusions: The
retrospective observation of clinical, epidemic and evolutionary variables of the patients
that were admitted for serious sepsis in intensive care unit allows to determine factors
that are associated to the mortality for this cause and a better physiopathologic
understanding of the problem.
