ABSTRACT
Introduction: the increase of bacterial resistance and the emergence of multiresistant stumps, make this phenomenon in one of the biggest challenges for public health care units. Objective: to know the behavior of P. aeruginosa and Acinetobacter spp to antibiotics of first choice.
Methods: a retrospective, descriptive, observational study was conducted at the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory belonging to the Municipal Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology, Güines municipality, Mayabeque province. The study consisted of 94 stumps of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 59 isolated from outpatients and 35 from inpatients and 44 of Acinetobacter spp, 2 isolated from outpatients and 42 from inpatients taken from different clinical samples (blood, secretion of the external auditory canal, sputum, lower limb ulcers and intravascular devices) in the period between January 2012 and December 2012.
Results: relative to the sensitivity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated stumps from community and hospital origin, it was observed higher sensitivity levels above 80% to the antimicrobial drugs: aztreonam, gentamicin, ceftazidime and amikacin. High levels of resistance to chloramphenicol, tetracycline and azlocillin were observed. By analyzing the behavior of the susceptibility in Acinetobacter spp isolated stumps from hospital origin, it was observed resistance values greater than 60% in stumps to all the studied antimicrobial drugs. The two stumps from community origin were resistant to the antibiotics tested.
Conclusion: Pseudomonas aeruginosa stumps showed good levels of sensitivity to the drugs of choice. The genus Acinetobacter showed high levels of resistance to the antibiotics studied.
