ABSTRACT
Cutaneous lichen planus (LP) affecting nails has been reported in 1 to 16% . There is a wide spectrum of
clinical forms, and the permanent damage has been observed at least in one nail in 4% of these cases.
Isolated forms, without involvement of skin and mucous membranes have also been observed. The main
clinical features are: longitudinal ridging and fissures, pits, atrophie, trachyonychia and dorsal
Pterygium.
Diagnosis is based on clinical and histopathological findings similar to cutaneous LP. Early systemic or topical
treatment is mandatory to prevent fibrosis and permanent ungueal dystrophy.
