ABSTRACT
Background: Granuloma Annulare (GA) is a chronic inflammatory cutaneous disease of unknown etiology.
Usually self limited and with different clinical forms. The objective of this paper is to determine the
demographic and clinical characteristics as well as its morbidity .
Material and Method: This is an open, descriptive and retrospective study of patients with clinical diagnosis of
Granuloma Annulare at the Dermatology Department of the National Hospital in Paraguay from 2000 to 2007
Results: We studied 17 patients with clinical diagnosis
of
Granuloma Annulare; it represents 0.39 % of patients
from this service; In 12 of them diagnosis was confirmed
by histopathology. The mean age was 38.2, and the
average relation female:male 7:1. The most frequent
clinical form was the classical localized (8 cases), followed by the disseminated form (5 cases) and only one case
of macular, subcutaneous and perforating forms. The most commonly affected site was the dorsal aspect of
hands and feet. In one case the lips’
Mucosae was involved.
We also observed hyperglicemic levels (4 cases): 3 with diabetes
Mellitus type 2 or 1 with altered fastening glucose
levels. The diabetic patients: 2 cases with disseminated GA and one with the classical localized form.
Treatment with topical corticosteroids had good and poor responses.
Conclusions: Granuloma Annulare is an uncommon condition with different clinical forms. The most frequent
was the localizad form in women and some cases with glycemic alterations.
