ABSTRACT
Background: Melasma is an acquired symmetrical hyperpigmentation characterized by light brown to dark colored areas. The melanin is a brown colored pigment produced by the melanocytes that are located in the basal layer and distributed among the cells on other layers in the epidermis. It is important to determine where the melanin is located in order to establish a prognosis and proceed with a suitable treatment.Objetive: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a new derivate of kojic and phytic acid** in the treatment of patients with melasma.
Material and Methods: We selected 15 patients with center, malar and mandibular melasma from a private clinic.
Results: Excellent tolerability was reported in all patients, good results were observed at 30 days of treatment and hyperpigmented spots diminished by 70%.
Conclusions: A new option for melasma treatment is evaluated with good results using a new acid kojic derivate
