ABSTRACT
Trichotillomania is defined as hair loss from a patient´s repetitive
self-pulling of hair. It is part of the impulse control disorders
and not still clear if it must be included in the obsessivecompulsive
group. Clinically, pseudo-alopecic patches with few
hairs with different lengths are observed involving the scalp,
eyelashes and/or eyebrows. It´s more frequent in children and
has a better prognosis than in adults. Women are more frequently
affected and usually secondary to an underlying psychiatric
disturbances. The treatment includes understanding
the underlying psychiatric problem, habit reversal therapy and
antidepressants.
