ABSTRACT
Furunculoid myiasis is malignant parasitation caused by
larvae of the botfly Dermatobia hominis. It is endemic to
Southern Mexico and Central and South America. We
report here on the case of a patient living in Mexico’s
Federal District who was infested with Dermatobia hominis,
and who had a history of travel to Costa Rica. A review of
the literature regarding this uncommon ailment in the
Valley of Mexico is also presented.
