ABSTRACT
Necrobiosis lipoídica is a chronic granulomatous disease of
unknown etiology, usually associated with systemic diseases as
diabetes mellitus type 2, lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid
arthritis. It affects the anterior aspect of both legs (85%) and
is characterized by red or yellow-brown annular plaques with
sclerotic areas. It can be associated with impaired tissue perfusion,
collagen fibers abnormalities, alteration on neutrophils, or
with infectious agents. Palisading granulomas are characteristic,
but pseudotuberculoid granulomas can also be found. Several
treatments have been described, such as topical corticosteroids
and intralesional monoclonal antibodies.
