ABSTRACT
Ageing is a complex process that involves every cell and organ
in the body, and leads to the deterioration of many body functions.
The ageing phenomena can be interpreted as signs of
ageing at the level of somatic stem cells. Adult stem cells are the
source for replacing cells damaged or lost during the entire life
of an organism. Many of the pathological conditions affecting
the elderly are the consequence of an imbalance between cell
loss and tissue renewal. Hence, a living organism is as old as its
stem cells.
