ABSTRACT
Community acquired pneumonia is one of the main indications for hospitalization in pediatrics. After the neonatal period, Streptococcus pneumoniae is the most important bacterial pathogen in all ages. Gram negative bacilli are an uncommon cause of community acquired pneumonia, and when they are involved, are generally related to risk factors such as immunodeficiency, hospital stay, broad spectrum antibiotics, surgical procedures and prolonged mechanical ventilation. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an important nosocomial agent causing pneumonia, but is rare as a community agent, even more in patients without risk factors for infection by this agent. We present a case of a previously healthy patient with Pseudomonas aeruginosa community acquired pneumonia complicated with empyema.REFERENCES
