Ameloblastoma. Literature review

ABSTRACT

Introduction: the ameloblastoma represents from 10 to 11 % of all odontogenic tumors, being locally invasive, with variables expression and behavior.
Objective: to show novel elements of clinical, histochemical and image presentation of the ameloblastoma.
Material and Methods: reference systems such as MEDLINE, PUBMED, and SCIELO were consulted. It was also made a revision of descriptors like ameloblastoma, odontogenic tumor, clinical feature, histochemical findings.
Development: is a polymorphic benign neoplasm composed of a proliferation of odontogenic epithelium in a fibrous stroma, its appearance is during the fourth and fifth decade of life in any sex, has a slow growing, involving mainly the mandibular bone, the therapeutic is complex because the tumor´s multicentric origin.
Conclusion: it was concluded that the ameloblastoma constitutes a tumor with variable clinical, histological and inmunohistochemical findings, that require in its initial assessment an exhaustive validation.
