ABSTRACT
Malignant acanthosis nigricans is paraneoplastic syndrome of
unknown etiology, characterized by the presence of plaques
and papillomatous hyperpigmentation. It is related to intra-abdominal
tumors in 94% of cases of which, 61-69% are concomitant
with gastric adenocarcinoma, although it is also present in
other malignancies including acute myeloid leukemia, lymphoma,
and bladder or liver carcinoma. Existing literature reports
only one case of MAN secondary to lung and prostate cancer.
This entity may coexist with three other paraneoplastic syndromes:
1) tripe palms (pachydermatoglyphia), 2) Leser-Trélat
sign, and 3) florid cutaneous papillomatosis. Treatment involves
tumor removal. Persistence or reappearance of skin lesions suggests
hidden recurrence or metastasis.
This is a case report of a patient presenting malignant acanthosis
nigricans, tripe palms and florid cutaneous papillomatosis
in association with prostate cancer.
