Skin Cancer in solid-organ transplant recipients

ABSTRACT

The number of organ transplant recipients (OTR) has increased steadily over the last few years. While survival of these patients has improved significantly, the use of immunosuppressive drugs to prevent organ rejection has resulted in an increased risk of skin cancer, most frequently non-melanoma types that tend to be more aggressive than equivalents affecting the general population. Since dermatologists play a critical role in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of skin cancers in transplant patients, this paper is intended as an update on the subject.
