ABSTRACT
Introduction. The emergence of achieving tangible impacts derived from the management of the science and innovation defines the need for a break with the classical way to address local science, that requires the management challenges in the research of public health in the pursuit of excellence.Ocjectives. Substantiate the need to find new ways that promote positive changes in the management of science and innovation in public health by changing on approaches to work in these processes . Method. It considered the results which, to date, have been obtained in the institutional Project "Management model of science and innovation in the Health Sector in Ciego de Ávila" as well as references to other documents published in Cuban and foreign magazines. Results. The relationship attendance-teaching-research and the role of the latter as integrator of the rest of the process, it should constitute the primary axis to achieve the excellence of the academy and health services; the internalization of knowledge of those links would corresponded to managers. Conclusions. It is not enough that profesional workers, especially managers, have information on the regulations established by the health system research, but it is necessary to apply a different approach to the traditional, to make possible through the internalization of that knowledge, to take appropriate decisions, and to obtain favorable changes in the development of processes, as well as the necessary balance between the academic, health care and research.
