Factors and risk markers associated with smoking among females

ABSTRACT
A retrospective observational study was conducted to determine the risk factors and markers associated with smoking among females, from September to December 2012, in the Northern Area Office No.7 of Ciego de Avila. The population consisted of 69 smokers among females 15 to 49 years; The sample was comprised of the 65 who agreed to participate and were not pregnant or had psychiatric disorders; from these control criteria for each case that was not a smoker and that meet general criteria for matching were selected. As empirical methods document analysis and a questionnaire were used as statistical methods of descriptive statistics, test of independence based on Chi-square distribution and Cramer V. It was determined that most started smoking during adolescence, by imitation of the family model and actor, most smoking 0-9 cigarettes a day and have tried to quit. Association between the presence of smoking and marriage, employment relationship, economic status, family pathological history and presence of other addictions found. No causal association for school level and Personal Background Pathologic found. The variable most strongly associated with smoking was the presence of other toxic habits.REFERENCES
