ABSTRACT
Introduction: The Distance Education is a powerful tool to facilitate the updating and diagnosis training of diseases like the cardiovascular, one of the first death causes in Cuba and all over the world, 80 % of which are provoked by arrhythmias. The traditional difficulty for teaching and practical identification of heart arrhythmias motived the development of this course. Objective: The design of a distance course for the diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmias. Material and Methods: It is designed on Web platform, employing programming languages as the dynamic HTML with elements of Java, PHP5 and the data base management system MySQL 5.3. Results: The designed course is twelve weeks long; it has six modules, each one published in Web pages every two weeks, with its virtual evaluation that, once passed, will permit the access to the next module, and a final virtual evaluation. An open discussion chat line and a system of private consultation to the professor were made up. All data were automated and electronically processed. Discussion: The results of the first version and the opinion of the students were analyzed, which justifies the design of this improved version. Conclusions: A new version of a distance course was designed to facilitate the updating and diagnosis training in heart arrhythmias. The results of the first version of the course, already published, and the opinion of the students allow inferring that this improved version will facilitate the postgraduate training in arrhythmias even more.REFERENCES
