ABSTRACT
The ongoing research and development of new anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs deserves special attention in the evaluation and management of patients presenting for surgery. As part of the development of the ideal anticoagulant, the newer drugs aim to provide safe, effective, predictable anticoagulant activity and no need for monitoring. Anesthesiologists must be familiar with the newly developed anticoagulants because their use in the perioperative setting is likely increase as do the risks and benefits of discontinuation or reversal of the drugs before surgery.REFERENCES
