ABSTRACT
Antibiotic resistance has become today an
important global health problem, and one of the
priorities to face and solve by the World Health
Organization for the upcoming years. This 21th
century plague should be treated from the
source, identified by many at the very farm
where animals are bred for human consumption.
Protocols for animal farm breeding fostering
regular use of antibiotics to prevent diseases,
and hence, to obtain a superior quality livestock
are common place in many countries. This
practice results in the occurrence of resistance
to antibiotics used that latter is transmitted to
humans through food chain. Microbial
resistance has been brought back again to
public light after announcing the discovery of
cross-communication between bacteria and
humans, thus forcing many to reappraise the
roads medical practice should take in the near
future in order to avoid setbacks in treating and
curing infectious diseases. The present review
examines the state of the art of research
currently being pursued on microbial resistance
and bacteria-human being cross-contamination,
and advances questions about today’s antibiotic
policies needing to be address urgently.
