ABSTRACT
A descriptive study was conducted at the Institute of Animal Science in the period 2003-2011. The universe was made up of all the accidents that occurred in the period and other injuries causing disability were not considered as such in its time. The source of information used were: accidents files existing in the Human Resources Division of the Institute of Animal Science (ICA), according to established procedures for recording, investigation and reporting of accidents and the reports of the group of Occupational Safety and Health and the family physician office serving the institution. The analysis showed that the accident was reported and investigated 15 accidents with equal numbers of injured and no accidents were reported as working 27 with equal number of injured, it was found that for every reported accident occurred 1.8 accidents not considered as such, which talks about underreporting of cases. The facts were predominant in males. The body areas most affected was the hands and feet. The most common injuries were the type of wounds, fractures and burns. It highlights the need for government record all information on accidents, incidents and / or events that have occurred in their workplace (area, position or activity) in order to conduct the appropriate investigation and elimination of potential risk factors and hazardous processes.
