Work-related hand and wrist accidents in 2010, 2011, and 2012 in Jalisco, Mexico

ABSTRACT
An analysis of hand and wrist injuries due to occupational hazards in the state of Jalisco, México during 2010, 2011, and 2012 indicates that in these years there were 10 202, 11 720 and 12 221 events, respectively. Occupational hazard formats (ST-5) in the archives of the Health Informa-tion Division from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) were reviewed with the purpose of evaluating trends in these figures and estab-lishing comparisons between them. This analysis produced an accident rate of 175 518 occupational hazards. This figure is broken down as follows: 137 923 work-related accidents; 36 864 commuting accidents; 711 occupa-tional disease incidents, and 362 deaths during these years. 2012, presented the highest number of hand and wrist injuries with a total of 5 470. As to superficial hand and wrist injuries, there were 3 425 incidents in that same year and 149 hand and wrist wounds.REFERENCES
