ABSTRACT
Introduction: gastroesophageal reflux disease is defined as the clinical situation that
occurs as a result of the retrograde step of the gastric content into the esophagus,
causing symptoms, signs and complications, with a great prevalence.
Objective: to characterize the patients with gastroesophageal reflux.
Method: it was
performed a transversal study in patients with diagnostic gastroesophageal reflux
attended in the Gastroenterology consultation at Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Hospital in
Bayamo during the period November 2010-l December 31, 2012. It was used the simple
sample taken at random.
Results: 240 patients were studied, the average age was about 36,5 years, 58,3%
belonged to the female sex, the 52,1 % of the patients presented some type of mucous
lesion detected in the endoscopy, these went significantly greater in the bebedores and
smokers.
Conclusions: the illness by backflow gastroesofágico has a greater prevalencia in patient
smokers, bebedores usual and obese, although the hernia hiatal can be present.
