ABSTRACT
We performed a cross-sectional study in 64 workers operating thermal energy generators in health centers of Arroyo Naranjo municipality and in laboratories of the chemical-pharmaceutical industry of Havana. It was applied a proposed pilot study protocol validation process in this research, which included an ophtalmological examination with the corresponding refraction. All of them work with firetube boilers toil with liquid fuel. Most of them were men of ages between 41 and 60. Of these, the largest group had between 1 and 10 years in this job, with hours that prevailed between 8 and 12 hours a day and, and 96,8% of them are trained and certified for this position. They considered insufficient lighting (56,3 %), the colors of walls inadequate (56,3%), adequate roof and floor in 51,6 % and 70,3 %, respectively. Visual acuity was 1,0-0,8 (normal range) in 84,4 %. The main diagnoses were: disorders of refraction (49), scleroderma hypertensive retinopathy (12) and cataract (3). Able for work were 82,8 %, able with recommendations especially for glasses for work (2,5 %) and unable (0,2 %) (with surgical evaluation pending). It further recommends that screening should be performed in preventive medical examinations employment with ophthalmologic evaluations.REFERENCES
