ABSTRACT
Osteoarthritis is a condition found worldwide, and it is strongly associated with aging, affecting 27 million adults in the United States in 2005. The aim of this study was made an epidemiological description in patients with diagnostic of osteoarthritis, namely; osteoarthritis classification, frequency of the more affecting joints, advanced radiographic grade according to affected joints and osteoarthritis classification, and obesity as associated co- morbidity. Results: the principal affected joints were: knee, 83; 41 % and cervical spine 79; 39 %. Primary osteoarthritis was more prevalent. The radiographic grade 4 Kellgren and Lawrence was found in 21 patients, 10.3 %, more frequently in primary osteoarthritis and knee. Obesity was present 27.2% patients with osteoarthritis. Conclusions: OA increases with aging. Primary osteoarthritis was predominant. Knee and cervical spine were the most affecting joints, mainly in female. The radiographic grade 4 was prevalent in primary osteoarthritis and knee.
