Clinical and psychosocial aspects in children with spastic displegia

ABSTRACT
Objective: to characterize the clinical and psychosocial aspects in children with spastic diplegia in «Julio Díaz» Children's Rehabilitation Service, 2005-2006.Methods: a cross-sectional study in n = 45 admitted to the «Julio Díaz» Children's Rehabilitation Center, 2005-2006 in order to characterize the clinical and psychosocial in children with spastic diplegia was performed. Studied variables: disease severity, age, sex, conditioning factors associated alterations, running, using technical assistance, surgery, measuring autonomy and psychosocial aspects. The X2 test of independence, comparison of proportions test and stockings with a = 0.05 were applied.
Results: the main results: moderate spastic diplegia 73, 3 % (n = 33). Associated alterations were osteomyoarticular deformities (68,9 %), language (57,8 %) and visual (48.9 %).The march was significantly satisfactory (p = 0.0246), 31 (68,9 %) implemented technical and 33 mothers (73,3%) were trained to handle the child management and they achieved to be semi-dependent (46,7 %).Existence of implements for treatment (73,3 %), for the displacement amplitude (60 %) and architectural barriers (53,3 %).
Conclusions: It was concluded that the severity of the disease was found to be moderate alterations of language, visual, deformities osteomyoarticular being clubfoot deformity and hip adduction, the most frequently underwent surgery, the highest percent of children are semi-dependent for basic activities of daily living and achieved satisfactory progress associated with continuity of treatment in the presence of technical assistance It was established the occurrence of a good family and community environment for the rehabilitation process with the significance of architectural barriers in homes.
