ABSTRACT
Congenital malformations are the second cause of mortality in less than one year old children in Cuba. Within this group, cardiovascular malformations are in the first place, followed by digestive and for these latter, intestinal obstructions are the most frequent ones. The aim of this study was to analyze the relation between the embryologic origin of duodenal obstructions and the results of neonatal surgery in their solution. An investigation was carried out on a series of newborn cases with congenital duodenal obstruction. A meaningful association between duodenal obstruction and other congenital defects was found as well as a greater mortality in those patients with the defect due to the failure in duodenal recanalization, as compared with those defects due to intestinal rotation and fixing. Starting from an embryologic basis, a reordering of the duodenal obstructions was carried out, which allows a better analysis of neonatal surgery results for the correction of these defects.REFERENCES
