ABSTRACT

The concept of life is discussed from a biological as well as biochemical perspective, recurring to Alexander Ivanovich Oparin’s evolutionist theory as the one that better explains the origin of life on Earth. The main chemical structures qualified as nutrients are dealt, and their relationships with the origin and perpetuation of life are explored. It is thus pretended to emphasize the importance of Nutrition as the science it is, as well as an essential biological function for the integrity of every living organism. Having reached this point, the ignorance of health care teams on the basic postulates of the science of Nutrition is revealed, and how it can affect the care of the hospitalized patient.
