ABSTRACT

Pulmonary thromboembolism represents a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Autopsy findings report about 25 to 30% of findings suggesting ancient or recent embolic phenomena, however, premortem diagnosis of pulmonary thromboembolism may be identified as low as 10 to 30%.
