ABSTRACT
Deficit attention disorder with hyperactivity (DADH) is the
most common psychiatric disorder in children. There are three
types of DADH. The symptoms implied different neuroanatomy
and neurochemical systems, therefore is least likely
finding a unique cause.
The findings in neuroimaging studies in children
with DADH mainly involve the frontal lobe and the basal
ganglia.
We included twenty-two male children, recently diagnosed,
without previous pharmacological treatment and
without any other disease. A cranial magnetic resonance
study was performed with morphological sequences and bilateral univoxel spectroscopy of the frontal lobes, caudate
nuclei and sensorimotor areas.
There were no significative differences between
the patients and the controls. The qualitative analysis
of the spectroscopy showed decreased choline levels
in the sensorimotor areas in all groups. Quantitative
analysis did not detected differences between
controls and patients. Moreover, significant differences
were found dividing the DADH group in subgroups.
