ABSTRACT
Fibrous dysplasia is a benign idiopathic skeletal disorder.
It represents 2.5% of all bone tumors and 7.5% of
benign bone tumors and presents a monostotic and polyostotic
variant. Computerized Tomography is the gold
standard imaging method for diagnosis and follow-up.
Surgical treatment is only necessary in cases of vessels
and nerves entrapment or due to cosmetic reason secondly
to bone deformity. Malignant transformation occurs
in only 1% of cases involving mostly the skull and
facial bones. Differential diagnosis includes Paget disease,
metastatic bone lesions and osteofibrous dysplasia.
McCune Albright syndrome should be distinguished
from Neurofibromatosis.
