ABSTRACT
The Breast cancer is still one of the most common causes
of death in the female population, specifically the second
cause and, in some regions of our country, the first. It has
been proven that the Mammography can be used in order
to asess an early breast cancer diagnosis. Several other studies
had proved the value of screening mammography in
the reduction of the mortality by the time the early diagnosis
has been made. With the increase in the number of
screening studies it has also increased the number of women
who require a biopsy of a non palpable and suspicious
lession and is precisely in this group of patients where
the stereotatic wire localization guided by mastography
has proven useful by allowing the exact localization of clinically
ocult lessions and later surgical approach. We present
the result of 71 breast biopsies done with stereotatic
wire localization in the departments of Mastography and
Oncology of the General Hospital of Mexico during the
periods of 1996 and 2001; poitining out some of its advantages
and correlationship between the images obtained
and its classification according to the American College of
Radiology and the histopathologic results obtained.
