ABSTRACT
Introduction: The authors reviewed 166 MRI of consecutive
patients referred for lumbar spine MR imaging at the Hospital
Juarez in Mexico City.
Methods: Only 100 MR were included in the study,
epidemiological variables obtained were: age, sex, site
of the lesion, therapeutic, behavior of the intervertebral
disk, and Modic classification.
Results: The highest herniation incidence was at L5-
S1 level(43%) and L4-L5 level (37%). Female were more
affected with 55%. Surgical treatment was used in 63% of
patients. 39% of the Herniation showed multidirectional
bulging. 14 cases had a Modic type II.
Discussion: The cumulative percentage of disc herniation
at L4-L5 level and L5-S1 level, was similar to that reported in
previous series. The more affected age group (31-40 year-old
age). All the above, let us recomend preventive measures.
New protocols for the study of disc herniation will be carry
out in our hospital.
