ABSTRACT
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) belongs to a group of multi-etiology, non-contagious, degenerative pulmonary diseases, which are known as interstitial pneumopathies in humans. They characteristically affect gas exchange at the pulmonary level, lower patient’s quality of life and have a bad prognosis. They are not frequent in domestic animals, thus they are usually not taken into account in clinical practice; and because definitive diagnosis requires histopathology, they are hardly recognized before the patient dies. The few animal cases described are very recent and not well known. Thus, the purpose of this article is to describe the clinical and pathological findings that characterize this disease, in a cat diagnosed at the Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia de la Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico.
