ABSTRACT
background. The uvulitis is considered an acute cellulitis of the uvula, it causing erythema, edema, pain and
fever. When its etiology is infectious, early diagnosis and treatment often prevents progression to epiglottitis. The
etiologic agents are
Streptococcus pneumoniae,
Haemophilus influenzae and streptoccus b hemolytic streptococci
(SBHGA)
case report. Masculine of 17 years old, consult for pharyngeal ticklishness odynophagia, with fever of 5 days
of evolution, with antecedent of Graves Basedow disease. Physical examination showed a feverish patient with
significant inflammation of the uvula, also edematous and bilateral submandibular lymphadenopathy. A quick test
of Streptococcus was reported positive. Procaine penicillin of 800.000 us IM was applied each 24 hours for 3 days
followed at 4 days of benzatinic G penicillin of 1.200.000 us IM in unique dose with good response. The control revision
at 72 hours showed significant improvement with defervescence and better general condition, the cultivation
of the uvula documented SBHGA
conclusion. The infectious uvulitis is a rare entity, with the advent of immunizations, the causal agent only to
consider what is the SBHGA, the most of them sensitive to penicillins.
