ABSTRACT
Introduction: The Multiple Sclerosis (EM) frequently increases with cognitive impairment; the
identification of the main changes help the rehabilitation of these patients and also delay or stop
the increscent of the impairment caused by the illness.
Objective: To identify the presence of cognitive changes on patients with Multiple Sclerosis.
Patients and Methods: A transversal and descriptible study was done on cases of control and
on patients with EM that came to the Demyelinated Diseases Appointments from theHermanos
Ameijeiras Clinical –Surgery Hospital, Havana during a period from January, 2011 to November,
2013.The studied group with EM was formed by 48 individuals and the control by 28 healthy
persons that reached a scholar level higher than 9th grade from 18 to 60 years old and both
sexes. MoCa Test was the measure instrument used for the cognitive impairment.
Results: The standard assessment obtained during the MoCa test was on patients with EM
and on the control was 25.1 and 28,3 respectively that represent a relevant difference between
both groups (p=0,000). The sieving of the deficits due to cognitive problems showed changes
between the individuals with EM on memory 95.8%, attention 70.8% and visuospatial
processing 81.8%.
Conclusions: The cognitive impairment on patients with EM was high. The visuospatial function
and the memory were more affected on patients with EM.
