ABSTRACT
Z-plasty is a procedure that involves the interdigital transposition of two triangular flaps; its name derives from the fact that
the three main branches of the incision on the skin are made in the shape of a Z. The transposition of the flaps has two major
results: a) The increase in length towards the common branch of the Z; b) The common branch of the Z changes direction.
These two results are what make the Z-plasty one of the most commonly performed procedures in plastic and dermatologic
surgery for the correction of scars and treatment of some dermatological diseases which seeks, in addition to the resolution
of the condition, a better cosmetic result.
