ABSTRACT
Quite often, a congenital heart disease is not detected during a routine obstetrical ultrasound, even after the inclusion of the four chamber view in the echocardiographic screening back in 1987, the definition of the high-risk groups and the training programs for the fetal echographist. This is why the detailed analysis of the fetal heart is the most important tool for the prenatal detection of congenital heart diseases. This work intends to provide prenatal diagnosis specialists
with a review of the fundamental characteristics to evaluate in the echocardiographic three vessels view. We consider that this specific view is vital in the screening of such defects, mainly having into account that it is easy to learn and get results, it can be obtained in more than 90 % of cases, is not time consuming and is found to be modified in most of the congenital anomalies. The illustrations used correspond to cases recorded at the William Soler Children Heart Center.
