ABSTRACT
A chondrosarcoma is a malignant tumor originated from cartilage tissue,
it can be classified in 3 stages depending on the degree of malignancy
that it demonstrates. We present a male patient aged 19 with a diagnosis
of chondrosarcoma grade I and II, which involves middle cranial fossa,
orbital apex, maxillary sinus, infratemporal fossa and left parapharyngeal
space. Because of malignancy and the anatomical structures invaded by
the tumor, palliative treatment was chosen, it consisted of the maximum
palliative dose of radiotherapy in head and neck, 70 Gy, alongside drug
therapy based on transdermal Fentanyl, oral Dextropropoxyphene.
Subsequent blockage of maxillary and mandibular branches of the left
trigeminal nerve was performed. In 3- year clinical control we observed
a decrease in tumor size leaving a suitable space in the upper airways,
specifically in the oropharynx, nonetheless we observed midline invasion,
with involvement of the contralateral cavernous sinus.
