ABSTRACT
Introduction: The survival of the ventilated newborn is an important problem in the Neonatology Intensive Care Service, and the quality of the nursery care process is a remarkable aspect to be considered. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the nursery care process in order to obtain a greater survival of the ventilated newborns. Methods: Evaluation study towards ventilated newborns in the Premature Close Neonatology Service at Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Hospital in Bayamo, since 2006 to 2010. For the NCP evaluation, there were made five phases. There were defined three dimensions: nursery diagnosis, expectations and actions. The data were processed through the statistical package STATISTICS version 8, for windows 2008. Results: The nursery action, that is, keeping the permeable aerial ways, was evaluated as adequate in 96.13 % of the cases; 297 (88.39%) of the newborns were alive at the end of the ventilation and 26 deceased (6.73%). To fulfill the aspects asepsis and antisepsis was adequated in 94.04% of the cases (n= 316), 295 were alive and 21 deceased, while it was inadequated in 20 newborns (5.96%). After the valuation of the NCP in the survival of the ventilated newborns, it was found a succesful proportion of 90.77% from the amount of children studied, with a level of significance α =0,05. Conclusions: The nursery interventions in the ventilated newborns, evidenced the level of competence and skills performed by this staff, which ensures the survival of ventilated newborns.REFERENCES
