Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia in a preschool with thyrotoxicosis

ABSTRACT
This case report of a 5 years old child with unrecognized Graves disease associated to tachycardia, paroxistic supraventricular tachycardia (PST) and diffuse toxic goitter. The patient had no family history, was first evaluated due to acute respiratory symptoms and detected tachycardia confirmed by EKG and Holter, and found a 4 minute episode of PST and isolated ventricular extrasystole. The thyroidal hormones and gammagraphy reported a hyperthyroidism diffuse toxic goitter. The tachyarritmia diminished using propranolol and metimazol and PST was no longer present after 4 months treatment.
