ABSTRACT
The non-invasive mechanical ventilation is the supply of ventilatory support without placement of an artificial airway (endotracheal tube or a tracheotomy), but a facial, nasal mask or a system of cask. Its beneficial effect is achieved by decreasing the intubation frequency and the complications associated with it. as well as the hospital stay or mortality thus it is recommended in the treatment of selected patients diagnosed with acute respiratory insufficiency. An exposition of the leading indications was carried out based on many studies supporting its use with different degrees of evidence. The main clinical selection principles are showed, as well as the exclusion criteria and those criteria on the success predictors for the non-invasive ventilation in the acute status.
