Introduction of the Natural and Traditional Medicine in the discipline Medical Microbiology and Parasitology

ABSTRACT
Objevtive: To describe the pedagogic experience derived of introducing the Natural and Traditional Medicine (NTM) in the discipline Medical Microbiology and Parasitology.Méthod: This work was developed in two stages. The first stage was consisted in the preparation of the professors in the applications and forms of treatment of the NTM, and the selection of the contents to introduce it in the lesson plans. The second stage dealt with the application of the experience through the design of a model class.
Ressults: A consultation material entitled “Theoretical Approach to the Natural and Traditional Medicine” was elaborated by the professors, which contains concepts, procedures and applications of the NTM, besides assessing its introduction in the program of the subject Medical Microbiology and Parasitology. A model lesson was elaborated as a lecture within the topic Medical bacteriology: The effect of physical and chemicals agents in the microorganisms. In the lecture, the phytodrugs and bee medications like anti-infectious agents of chemical nature were approached, as the variants most used in the treatment of the infectious diseases of diverse origin.
Conclusions: The experience facilitated a closer approach of the students and professors to the Natural and Traditional Medicine, and its diverse applications. Approaching these concepts from the curriculum, allowed the medicine students to improve these practices from their early formation stages and to recognize them as an alternative or therapeutic complement of the allopathic medicine, for the treatment of the infectious diseases.
